The place to be for those who want to explore the jungle in an area that doesn’t suffer a lot from oil exploitation, deforestation and pollution. It is the primary jungle. If you want to see a lot of animals, this is the place to go to.

Since 1979 this animal kingdom is a protected area. The area exists of 655.000 hectare and mainly exists of tidal forest. During the rainy season the water level of the rivers rises which makes that the main part of the park is flooded which makes the park easily accessible. There are different scarce animals to find in the park, including the fresh water river dolphins and the otter. The area where the park is situated is inhabited by 3 different Indian tribes.

It is the place to be if you want to stay in basis circumstances in one of the most beautiful areas of Ecuador. Here you will see monkeys, caymans, stinking turkeys, piranhas, toecans and if your lucky the pink river dolfins. Lodges are working hard on conserving the area by using biodegradable products. There are three lodges that we recommend.

Jamu Lodge
The best choice if you are looking for a real jungle adventure without any luxury and with some comfort. The lodge is situated in an affluent of the Laguna Grande from where you can visit different parts of the reserve. The common area is situated in the middle of the area, with the cabañas around it. Cabañas are without electricity so at night there is a great atmosphere with natural light (candles) in which you can experience the night sounds of the jungle. Don´t worry if you need to charge your batteries: it is possible in the co mmon area.
Siona Lodge
Situated on one of the banks of the Laguna Grande you’ll find this lodge made of bamboo. All cabañas have their own private and modern bathroom. In contrast to Jamu Lodge this lodge does have electricity in the rooms. Rooms are for one or two persons, the lodge doesn’t have dorms.
Cuyabeno Lodge
Maybe the best situated lodge in the Cuyabeno reserve with monkeys crossing the area where you will stay! That’s a nice welcome. All rooms have electricity and pretty soon the lodge will have their own observation tower from where you will have a great view over a big part of the reserve.
