Located at about 2500 metres in the southern part of the Andes, Ecuador’s third largest city is considered to be the most beautiful of the country. Its centre is amongst the UNESCO world heritage sites and compared to Quito, it is more peaceful and tranquil. It impress with the colonial facades of the buildings and beautiful churches of which some date back to the 16th or 17th century. If you wander around the small streets it feels like a travel in time. Beside that, Cuenca is a melting point of different cultures and it’s the mixture of the influences of the Cañari, Inca and Spaniards that make the city unique.
