A frequently asked question is why you have to pay to do volunteer work. To answer this question, it is good to know the specific items that conform the price and what is included during the time of your project. The biggest portion of the price you pay goes towards your accommodation during the time of your project. Another part is used to cover fixed costs of the coordination center, a direct financial aid towards the project where you will be working at and a part is kept on a special account and used for donations, such as our annual Christmas presents to children of the projects (more than 1500 gifts in 2007!) and financing of small urgent projects. Also you can always come to Ecole during the time of your project for any questions or practical help.

When doing a project on the Galapagos Islands, your national flight to and from the islands and your volunteer visa is also included in the price. With all projects, accommodation is included, but only with projects outside of Quito are the meals also included. When doing a project in Quito or on the Galapagos Islands you have to pay for your own meals.

Most people who are interested in doing a volunteer project in Ecuador, choose to combine volunteer work with Spanish lessons. A decent level of Spanish is obligatory in most projects, and is essential to get the most out of your experiences here.
